"Indeed, it is now very difficult for graduates of engineering, architecture and other design courses to secure employment if they are not proficient in CAD software programmes." Mr. Paniel Mwaura, Skytop CEO.
Students, lecturers and various stakeholders from Machakos University showed a lot of enthusiasm when the Skytop Technologies team visited the institution on 3rd of August 2018. The purpose of the visit was to present SkyTOP’s DemosCAD software, a training solution for AutoCAD. The team was led by Skytop Technologies CEO Mr. Paniel Mwaura.
The occasion was held at the university’s amphitheatre. Machakos University’s Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Peter Muita welcomed the Skytop Technologies team, hailing their efforts to provide software solutions in computer aided design.
The presentation was very interactive, and was well attended by the students and lecturers who were keen to understand the DemosCAD software and the opportunities it presents to them as designers. About 250 students drawn from the civil and building, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering department attended the event.
Mr. Paniel Mwaura , the CEO of Skytop Technologies encouraged the students to take advantage of the cutting-edge skills acquired through DemosCAD. He told them that through this, they will be well placed to take up amazing opportunities in employment or generate wealth creation through self-employment. He added that the robust DemosCAD demonstration software solution aims to tap, ignite and inspire the optimization of exploring technical and creative design abilities of users in various technical disciplines. These include: Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive and Civil Engineering, Architecture, Clothing and Textile, Information Technology, Creative Art and Animation among others.
Detailed and educative presentations were made by the Skytop Technologies CEO Mr. Paniel Mwaura and Engineer Kelvin Karanja. The presentation touched on the salient features of the DemosCAD software.
The audience passionately applauded the good features of the software. The fact that every tool in AutoCAD is demonstrated in DemosCAD inspired the students to have a different perspective about AutoCAD. In DemosCAD, they saw an opportunity to become experts in AutoCAD.
The Skytop team had an interactive session with the students to get their views about the wonderful software and most were of the view that the software will improve their skills and proficiency when working with AutoCAD. There was also a challenge for willing participants to showcase their AutoCAD expertise and winners were awarded with gifts, courtesy of Skytop Technologies. Many students confessed they struggle using AutoCAD due to its numerous tools and complex interface.
Risper Chepng’eno, an electrical engineering student said that she uses AutoCAD for drafting and documentation. “Despite being good in AutoCAD, I still struggle to use its tools and commands. I find the ‘Help’ menu in AutoCAD software inadequate. From the demonstration of DemosCAD software, I find it very valuable to me because it is an incredible technology. It will provide me with the necessary knowledge and skills to enable me do my design project.” She said.
The presentation in Machakos University was part of Skytop Technologies campaign to reach out to various institutions that offer technological courses in Kenya. There was a similar presentation in The University of Nairobi in October 2017. Other institutions that Skytop Technologies intends to visit soon include Egerton University, Kisii University among others.
